I am having those days. And like most women, I experience minor physical changes a few days before and during my menstrual period.
Just two days ago, I had a weigh-in and was pleased that unclothed, I weighed 134 lbs. But when I weighed myself right before starting this blog post, I was 2 lbs. heavier at 136 lbs. I had a very light dinner of brown rice, fish, and leafy vegetables so I know that it’s not the culprit. For most women who report bloating and weight gain during the menstrual period, the most common reason is water retention.
Aside from feeling bloated, I also have intense cravings for salty junk food. Giving in to these cravings, I know, will surely result in another major dieting setback. If left unchecked, my healthy appetite for salty junk food can be translated into 2 large packs of corn or potato chips and probably a bag of salted peanuts.
I admit I am barely able to control my food cravings during “these days”. And the only thing that stops me from stuffing myself with salty, salty snacks is the fact that I don’t have junk food in the house. My stomach is growling, but heck, I’m glad that I don’t have to wake up feeling more bloated than I already am.
