The last time I had a weigh-in was 26 days ago and I was 134 lbs., unclothed. So when I weighed myself as soon as I woke up and found out that I now weigh 130 lbs., I mentally gave myself a thumbs-up sign.
One hundred thirty pounds with clothes on– could be a major nightmare for most women but for somebody who has been trying to lose weight for almost two years, I consider this a major feat. I feel lighter, my clothes are more comfy, and my asthma attacks became less frequent.
So what exactly did I do? Since I had to eat sensibly due to health reasons, I figured that the key to having a fighting chance in the battle of the bulge is to stop obsessing about food. And more importantly, I WENT GREEN.
For the past two weeks or so, I have been eating a lot of fruits and vegetables. And when I say a lot, I really mean A LOT. I can easily have steamed or grilled okra, cabbage, tomatoes, brocolli, green beans, and zucchini throughout the day without complaining. Sometimes, I toss in a few slices of tofu for added flavor.
Since I started preparing my own meals at home, I get to choose what I want to eat. Instead of gorging on rice and spicy noodles for a quick snack, I make grilled vegetable sandwich or simply assemble a fruit platter. Both are healthier choices (compared to the rice and noodles combo I was used to) and are amazingly filling.
Going green doesn’t mean I have chosen to become vegetarian. It simply means that I have chosen to increase my consumption of fruits and vegetables. And staying away from fried and oily food if I can, and when I can.
I still eat meat from time to time. I think McDonald’s crispy chicken fillet sandwich is delicious and last night, I had pizza topped with an assortment of meat.
Oh well, it is almost time for my afternoon snack so excuse me if I have to go and nuke a plate of my favorite veggies.
